Students dance the night away at Spanish Club Fiesta
On Monday, April 16, Chapman High School students were able to cut a rug and dance the night away at the annual Spanish Club Fiesta.
The Spanish Club Fiesta was open to all Chapman students to try authentic Hispanic cuisine and dance to music from a DJ.
While teachers and leaders wanted students to have fun with their friends, they also wanted them to see it as more than just a party.
“There are so many things that you want to teach students and most of all it is the culture around a language,” Spanish teacher Sandra McClure said. “The language comes from the people and their culture and it’s because of them that we have the language and we should respect that.”
Senior Spanish Club leaders Emma Phillips and Maddie Mayfield agree, wanting the younger students to recognize Spanish as more than just a language.
“We want to let our classmates that it isn’t just a language, that it is more than just words,” Senior Emma Phillips said.
“We wanted to bring people together to celebrate Hispanic culture and all that makes it great,” Senior Maddie Mayfield.
