Teacher Talk: Mrs. Colson

Although English teacher Alex Colson has only been teaching at Chapman for three years, she has undoubtedly made a lasting impact on many students lives. With her positive attitude and caring nature, Colson is able to teach students on a level where they can understand things better and have fun learning.

“I want them to know that I understand their problems and all of the struggles that come with being a student,” Colson said.

Whether they are analyzing a book or Shakespeare play, Colson aims to teach every student on an individual level because every student learns in a different way.

Colson attended Riverside High School and then acquired her teaching degree at Clemson University.

“I have loved teaching since I was little, and I really enjoyed the feeling that I got when I could help people reach their goals with what I knew,” Colson said.

She also gives thanks to a teacher that she had in high school who inspired her to become one herself and made it fun and interesting.

Aside from what Colson teaches her students, she says she learns just as much from them every single day. Her goals for teaching are to improve every day and become a better teacher every year through her learning herself.

“My main goal is to help students realize that if they set their mind to something, no-matter what it is, they can achieve it,” Colson said.
