If you are grocery shopping within a few miles of Chapman High School, you may see some familiar faces. Several Chapman students work at local grocery stores.
Junior Urijah Ingram works at Ingles in Landrum, junior Elijah Mandlove works at Food Lion in Inman, and senior Elijah Smith works at Publix in Boiling Springs.
Ingram said Ingles in Landrum stands out compared to other stores.
“We got an A for the clean part of the inspection,” Ingram said. “Ingles is the place to shop if you’re looking for a nice working environment with a country twang.”
Mandlove, who works at Food Lion in Inman, said his job has helped him develop important skills.
“I learned how to focus, get the job done and how to communicate with other people and coworkers,” Mandlove said.
Smith said working at Publix has exposed him to high expectations.
“I like the fact that they set high standards for me and my coworkers,” Smith said.
Grocery store jobs also give students opportunities to build skills beyond the workplace.
“Working at Ingles led me to meet new people, while having determination and confidence,” Ingram said.
