Korean relations improving after talks

April 27, 2018, a remarkable moment took place in history: North Korea and South Korea both agreed to denuclearize the peninsula and permanently end the Korean War that has lasted since 1950.
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un has proposed this to South Korea’s leader Moon Jae-in. It was Kim’s idea to go forth with the denuclearization, subsequently ending the war. Moon states, “A bold decision has been made. Big applause should be given to Kim Jong Un.” He adds, “there is no turning back.”

On May 1, 2018, all propaganda activities came to an end. The North Korean propaganda activities were mockeries of the US and South Korea. The two defense ministers from the Koreas will meet this month with intentions of easing the war tension on the Korean peninsula.

Even though the meeting was flourished with smiles and choreographed walks, the plan on how to go about this proposal is still unknown.
This isn’t the first time that this idea has been thrown in. In 2001 and 2007, these ideas were brought up, but they were all words with no action. Trump has created close ties with North Korea unlike other presidents in the past. This will also lead their way to the Koreas peace.

On May 3, 2018, Trump made a tweet about 3 Americans who have been detained in North Korea for years. These 3 Americans are: Kim Dong Chul, Kim Hak Song, and Tony Kim. His tweet hints that the 3 Americans may be released.

As mentioned earlier, this isn’t the first time that this proposal has been made, but times and presidents have changed. There is still hope for the Koreans to finally be one again. As Kim said, “We are the same people and the same blood and we cannot be separated.”
