Over the 2026-28 school years, new regions for schools to compete in and classification changes will be introduced.
Chapman’s new region includes Broome, Union County, Christ Church and Blue Ridge.
Well-known opponents Woodruff and Mountain View Prep both dropped to Class AA. Greer Middle College will also compete in that classification.
In the Upstate, some Class AAAAA schools such as Gaffney, Riverside and Greenville Senior High School will drop to Class AAAA with the removal of Division II in AAAAA.
Junior football player Taylor Rogers said the changes could create better matchups for fans.
“I think that with new regions, it can create some really good games for people to watch at all levels,” Rogers said. “Like Northwestern and Dorman being in the same region and playing in every sport is really good for fans.”
Sophomore baseball player Bradson Chasteen said the new region could help athletes compete at a higher level.
“With our new region, we’ve played Broome and Union for a while now, but having a former AAAA school like Blue Ridge and a school like Christ Church, it really gives us athletes a really good chance to compete at a high level and win more region championships,” Chasteen said.
Cross country runner Rachael Edwards said the region will challenge her team.
“I like the new region a lot for my team, but Christ Church is just a really good team for cross country,” Edwards said. “So to win the region, my team will have to run their best.”
