This semester, Chapman students attended the first internship fair hosted by One Spartanburg and the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM).
Juniors and seniors had the opportunity to speak with businesses from a variety of industries, including business, construction and opportunities with the city of Spartanburg.
Many students said they enjoyed the experience. Junior Vivian Lee said the event helped her learn about careers she had not previously considered.
“I really enjoyed getting to see all the different jobs that were out there,” Lee said. “Getting to see some of the careers that I didn’t even know existed at first was really beneficial.”
Lee said the experience also helped her think more seriously about her future career.
“Getting to see what kind of jobs to look for in the future was really beneficial for me,” Lee said. “I got to see what interested me more, and I also learned about jobs I had never considered before.”
Career development facilitator Catherine Gramling helped organize the trip for Chapman students.
“I hope that students got to see their options with the businesses and meet with the owners to learn what their businesses were all about,” Gramling said. “That way they could possibly be employed with them over the summer and maybe even long term.”
Organizers plan to hold the internship fair again next year. Even if the event does not return, Gramling said Chapman will continue to help students find internship opportunities.
