Chapman has introduced a new program during ROAR that gives students in EOC exam classes extra help preparing for the test.
Academic coach Alex Colson helped develop the idea.
“Even though the EOC prep sessions take place once a month during ROAR, they provide structured, intentional opportunities for students to engage with EOC-style questions and academic vocabulary,” Colson said.
Teachers can also review which topics and units students find most challenging. Using that information, teachers can assign targeted lessons to different students.
“By analyzing how students perform before each session, teachers can adjust classroom instruction, reinforce weak areas and push students to higher levels of thinking,” Colson said.
Students have mixed feelings about the new ROAR program. Some believe the extra practice is unnecessary, while others say they understand its purpose.
Sophomore Natalie Green said the program could still be helpful for students preparing for the exam.
“I think it’ll help us because it will prepare us for the material we are going to see on the EOC,” Green said.
Some students have also expressed concern about the required attendance.
“Attendance is taken in each session, and it is treated like missing any other class during ROAR,” assistant principal Carrie Forrest said.
Even though the sessions may feel like extra work, school leaders said the program is designed to help students succeed on their exams. Students who want more information about EOC preparation can speak with Colson or a counselor.
