Girls tennis continues undefeated season

Undefeated is a word that is undoubtedly a very hard thing to achieve in any sport. A flawless record shows that a team is consistent and can adapt to any circumstances that come about.
Led by Coach Caleb Crittendon, Chapman girls tennis is currently 4-0 in the regular season with two scrimmage wins against Byrnes and Blue Ridge. What is unique about their season so far is that each victory was a 7-0 match score. Each player on the team has not lost yet individually.
This is not due to having no competition either. The Panthers have beaten 5A Byrnes and 4A Greer in the process.
The tennis schedule can be long and grueling with some weeks having three matches. It can be difficult after getting home late from a match to turn around and play again the next day, but the Panthers have not shown this to be an issue and still continue to perform day in and day out.
Tennis is a sport that takes every single player on the team in order to win and there is no room for any slack. Each component on the team is important from the number one spot all the way to second doubles. This team also has proven to show depth throughout the entire lineup.
Junior Molly Foxworth returns for her fifth season and her second year as captain. The team also has many young players that are getting better each game, including freshmen Elizabeth Williams and Alex Kinlaw, who have taken the top two positions respectively. Williams shared her priorities for a match: “Staying positive and encouraging your team to do their best is the most important thing.”
She also believes that if you treat practice like a match, it will make them easier and less intimidating.
With four starters being in ninth grade or under, the team has players that will be a part of the program for years to come and hope to still produce the same success.
The Panthers plan to keep the ball rolling as they take on Eastside at home Tuesday at 4:30 pm. Come and support the program today and enjoy some tennis.
