Chapman takes the Cookout Bowl in dominant fashion
It was a game students from both sides have been anticipating for long before the season. A game that was labeled as the “Cookout Bowl” due to having to share the restaurant between the two schools.
Boiling Springs started out strong early, but Junior Mikele Colasurdo established the offense as the game progressed. Colasurdo controlled the 2nd half going 17/25 on completions and throwing for 280 yards.
Junior Ben Rollins made the highlight reel with a 78-yard touchdown catch. Rollins finished the day with 158 total receiving yards and 7 catches.
“You have to trust that every player is going to be where they are supposed to on the field, and plays will work properly,” Rollins said.
The defense also made a tremendous impact in the game forcing four turnovers, three of which were interceptions. Junior Paxton Tolleson brought back an interception 30 yards for a pick-six, and Senior Jalen Pearson also had a pick-six.
The team is showing that they are well organized, and each player knows their role on the field. The defense is getting crucial stops which gives the offense an opportunity to put points on the board. This victory over a 5A team shows that the team is not afraid of a challenge or being listed as an underdog.
I believe a big factor in the team’s success is how they stay resilient even when down a score. It is very easy to surrender and let big games slip out of your hands in times like that.
They will face the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers in Greer on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Tigers are 0-2 and suffered a 42-0 loss to Landrum. The theme of this game is “Jersey Night,” and we also need to fill up the away side with more fans than the home team!
