“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” raises the bar for Netflix rom-coms
“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” is a recently released teen romance film on Netflix. Released on August 17th, 2018, fans immediately began to drool over the drama and of course, Noah Centineo, formally known as Peter.
Along with Centineo, the main character Lana Condor (also known as Laura Jean) carried the rom-com with all the laughs and heart eyes. Starting as a joke and ending with a love that will hopefully last a lifetime.
As Centineo starred in “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before,” he was also shooting another movie brought to you by Netflix named Sierra Burgess is a Loser, another story similar to the first but nowhere near as good. Although he belonged to “The Fosters” first, Centineo has definitely made his breakthrough with the top two rom-coms of 2018 by far, in my opinion of course.
Lana Condor first starred in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” however “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” has been her first main role, killing the part and giving all of us all of the feels, plus more.
In the movie, Peter was the jock who everyone crushed on, driving the nicest car and being the pretty boy, and Laura Jean was his ex’s ex-best friend, a nerd who kept to herself, having an impressive wardrobe, and struggling to drive.
Although this seems like a couple that would never happen because of girl code, duh, a love letter Laura Jean wrote a long time ago was leaked by her sister, allowing Noah to become aware of an old crush. Rather than blowing it off, Peter devises a plan to fake date Laura Jean in order to make his ex jealous, eventually wanting to win her back. They begin to “date” by going out and eating dinner with their families, and Peter realizes his heart belongs to Laura Jean.
Although this will probably be my favorite movie of 2018, the fact that Laura Jean has had a crush on her sister’s boyfriend could have been left out. It added a weird and unnecessary vibe to the whole piece.
However, everything else was absolutely perfect, and I am praying for another one that is just as great if not better.
Rumors have been heard of a sequel, and fingers are definitely being crossed.
Heart eyes. Heart eyes. Heart eyes.
