Pride of Inman starts season off strong

On Saturday, September 22, Chapman’s band competed in the Boiling Springs High School Festival of Band. Chapman placed third overall, and second in music; outranking bands that were bigger, with higher classifications.

“I definitely think we’ve examined the weaknesses of last season, but also the things that were good and the strengths,” Drum Major Enajah McCluney said. “There’s been a lot of thought and preparation for this season, so hopefully that will help us succeed even further than last season.”

Band members don’t always get the spotlight they deserve, but they put in just as much work as any of the sports teams. It’s safe to say a Chapman home football game wouldn’t be the same without the Pride of Inman.

“We work hard, endlessly during the summer and the week,” McCluney said.

As much work as it may be, it’s a passion. No matter where they place in competitions, the feeling they get from playing is enough to keep the passion alive. They love what they do, and are ready to learn from mistakes of last year and take it even further this year.

“I can only look forward to what’s going to happen with more practice and more rehearsals in the future,” McCluney said.

Chapman’s next competition will be October 20th, at Boiling Springs.
