Five ways to get spooked in the upstate
With the start of spooky season came new movies like the most recent Halloween remake. However, for the real thrill seekers, there are places around the upstate to face the terror in real life.
Nightmare Hollow is a haunted trail on Reidville Road in Spartanburg. It’s open from Oct. 26-31 and Nov. 2 and 3 from dusk until eleven. Spend 35 minutes walking the trail surrounded by living nightmares, hence the name. For prices and directions, visit their website.
The Fear Farm is a haunted house on Ninety-Nine Island Road in Blacksburg. It’s open Oct. 26 and 27 as well as Halloween day, starting at seven. There is a $20 general admission and free parking. More information can be found on their website.
If you didn’t get scared quite enough from the first two, Wompus Woods is another haunted trail that can be found on Parris Road in Cowpens. It will be open from Oct. 26 to the 31 and Nov. 2 and 3, from dusk until you just can’t be scared anymore. Prices and directions can be found on their website.
For those who just can’t be scared, try the Greer Ghost Walk. There will be tours on Oct. 25 and 30 at 5:30 and 7 p.m.. If you think you can handle it, you should meet at the historic depot on Randall St. before the tour you want to attend. The price is five dollars for anyone five and up and free for children under five (cash only).
To give you one final scare, check out SCarowinds. If you enjoy Carowinds in the summer, come enjoy those roller coasters again this fall, but be ready for a fright when you get off a ride. Found on Carowinds Boulevard on the North Carolina/South Carolina line, SCarowinds is a “scream park” for this spooky season. It’s only open select weekends through Oct. 28 from seven to midnight, so be sure to check out their website and buy your tickets.
If you think you have nothing to fear, think again. Try any one of these five haunted attractions, or any of the other ones in our area. There’s something out there for everyone, so don’t miss out on the fright fest. Dare to be scared!
