Panthers play on in playoffs
These are exciting times for Chapman athletics as three teams continue their deep runs in the playoffs. Here’s a look at the great work coming from Girls Cross Country, Girls Tennis, and Volleyball.
After placing 8th in the Upper State run at South Side High School, Girls XC will travel to Columbia to compete in the state meet. They have had an award-winning season, competing very closely with their opponents and making their school proud. Placing high this season, freshman Emma Whitaker received the All-State Good Hands of the Week Award. Whitaker also made All-Region along with eighth-grader Sophia Woodard. Be sure to wish these girls luck as they travel to show Columbia what our small town team is all about!
As Region Champs, girls volleyball has aggressively triumphed through the first three rounds of the play will host the AAA Upper State Championship on Monday, Nov. 5. The Lady Panthers fought hard against Woodruff, in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-23) match. Next up, the girls will return to upper state for the second year in a row to face off against the team that ended their season a year ago: the Powdersville Patriots.
With a 14-0 season and the title of Region Champs, the Girls Tennis team will be hosting Union County in the Upper State Championship on Monday, Nov. 5. Chapman defeated the 2017 Upper State Champions, Mid Carolina, in a 4-1 match on Oct. 31. Junior Molly Foxworth and freshmen Elizabeth Williams and Alex Kinlaw have been named All-Region, and Williams also claimed Region Player of the Year. The girls are truly making history, considering upper state is the furthest Chapman has ever gone in the sport. If Chapman tops Union, they will play for a state championship at Cayce Tennis Center on Saturday, Nov. 10.
