Lady Panthers after beating Union County to take Upper State.

On Monday, girls tennis defeated Union County by a score of 5-1. No. 1 Elizabeth Williams and no. 2 Alex Kinlaw both won 6-1, 6-1. No. 3 Molly Foxworth won both her sets 6-2 and 6-0. The match also included a thrilling third-set tiebreaker that Union County won. This would go on to be the only game that they would win.

The Lady Panthers have performed consistently all season and have cruised through the playoffs, earning themselves a spot in the state championship game where they will face Bishop England, the winner of the past seven state championships.

The Panthers are a very young team that has really found a rhythm and have proven that they are the best candidate to represent the upper-state.

Coach Caleb Crittendon is prepared for the challenge ahead.  “Each match has instilled our confidence that we can beat anybody. Bishop England is a very talented team, but somebody has to eventually beat them. Why not us?” Crittendon said.

Crittendon has led the team to the furthest point it has ever been in history, including a 95-3 overall record so far.

The match will be held at Lexington Tennis Center at noon along with the other divisions’ championship matches.

Although it seems like a tough task, anything is possible when you have confidence and faith in your team. It will take each player competing at their very best and not giving up if they lose a point or even a set. Tennis is a sport where you can come back and win at any point in the match.

We wish our Lady Panthers the very best of luck on Saturday as they seek to bring the rings back to Inman.
