Former Panther on track to make history at Wofford

Chapman alum Cody Chavis has been breaking records since he joined track as a Panther, and there is no stopping him anytime soon.

Chavis graduated from Chapman in 2016 with the highest GPA and lettered in both football and track. Chavis played running back and defensive back in football, and ran 200, 400, and 800-meter sprints in track.

In his time at Chapman, Chavis set the record for the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:21.

Chavis joined track with the sole goal of increasing his speed for football, however, when he began running he fell in love with the sport.

“After meeting Coach Gray and beginning my first season, I fell in love with the sport and knew I wanted to do it for as long as I could,” Chavis said.

Chavis is in his junior year at Wofford College, majoring in English with hopes to pursue a career in journalism.

He has continued to pursue his track career at Wofford, and it has allowed him to travel to new places and make new bonds with people that he would not typically have.

“It’s created an inner drive in me to keep pushing myself to persevere and get better, so it’s helped me grow, not only as an athlete but as a person as well,” Chavis said

Cody Chavis is making history both on the track and in the classroom, and he does not plan to stop anytime soon.
