Varsity Baseball sweeps the region
With a 13-3 regular season record and 5-0 region record, this season is one for the books for Chapman Varsity Baseball. In a matchup against Broome on March 30, the boys won 4-0 to secure the region. Winning region champions means marking history, for this was the first time since 2003 that Chapman came out on top.
Head coach Steven Fusaro was a player in 2003 when they won region and progressed all the way to the State Championship.
“It’s been a dream of mine, along with our staff, to return our baseball program to state prominence like it used to be. I feel over the past few years we have begun to be recognized on the state level, but we want to start ending our seasons with wins,” Fusaro said.
As they step into the final stretch of the season, the team is excited and ready to see what’s to come.
“We just need to play every game like we played that region game. If we stick together we can win any game,” sophomore Jacob Murray said.
The joy that this region win brought to the team was overwhelming, and it lays the foundation for success for the rest of the season.
“It is my hope that this year we truly begin a history of making a run at State Championships again. Region Championships are nice and it was definitely a goal,m but it is only one achievement on the way to our ultimate goal of a State Championship,” Fusaro said.
The next baseball game is at home against Chesnee on April 12 at 7:30 p.m..
