Christmas then and now
We all know that every year, there’s always something new going on. Things change over time, things like television, school and even holidays.
Speaking of holidays, it’s getting close to Christmas for us right now, and things are very different from last year’s Christmas.
If you compare Christmas now to Christmas when you were little, it might have seemed a lot different from then to now.
We didn’t have online shopping back then, so everybody went out into stores to buy their presents.
Since you couldn’t just go and immediately find what you were thinking of, you had to go and look for things in stores, and if the stores didn’t have it, you couldn’t get that gift.
Compare that to now, where you can easily find stuff online without having to leave your house, and you can see how much things have changed since then.
Although online shopping is a lot easier than in-store shopping, there are still obstacles many people run into crazy shipping prices, scammers, shipping/delivery mixups, products getting damaged in the mail, etc.
But in-store shopping has its problems, too, such as crowded stores, some stores being closed, shelves being cleared out and there’s always at least one or two whiny little kids that you can hear no matter where you are in the store.
With technology continuing to advance, that means Christmas gifts tend to change, too.
In the early 2000s, it was more common for kids to ask for things like toys or more physical items like bikes or skateboards, but since then, cell phones have become more and more accessible and popular, which is one of the reasons why kids nowadays are more likely to ask for an iPhone or a gaming console or even a laptop.
With entertainment technology getting more advanced, other things evolve along with it. Back in somewhere around the 1990s, Christmas displays usually consisted of mostly yellow lights and simple decorations. If you look at the more recent years, there are a lot more colorful lights and more complex displays.
Although not as many people may be going out to see the Christmas lights people have set up since the pandemic that started early this year has some people quarantining in order to not spread the virus around more.
The pandemic this year has made many things change from previous years, especially on the holidays including major holidays like Christmas. For example, Christmas shopping this year will definitely be different than usual.
People tend to go Christmas shopping with their families because it’s one of the many things that helps bring them all together. Spending time with your loved ones is the biggest part of Christmas, and one of the most important, too.
This time people get with their close family helps them bond and relieve some stress from this whole year by relaxing with their families and enjoying the holidays with this warm feeling of comfort and contentment.
Lots of things change about the holidays over the years, but the one thing that stays the same is the overall feeling of being with your family.
