Not all high school girls are mean girls

On Wednesdays we wear pink.

“Mean Girls” is one of my favorite movies, even if it exaggerates reality somewhat. I’m not sure if anyone has a burn book or a mom that acts younger than her own daughter.

However, there are a few mean girls anywhere you go. Personally, I haven’t had much experience with girls faking friendships, but I have witnessed it.

That’s why her hair’s so big! It’s full of secrets.

Girls always have secrets about one another. This part rings true, even if we don’t actually carry secrets in our hair.

This movie helped perpetuate a stereotype that girls who dress nice and look are mean.

But not every girl in the world is a complete and total mean girl. Most are quite
“fetch,” actually.

I don’t hate you ‘cause you’re fat, you’re fat ‘cause I hate you!

“Mean Girls” does do an accurate job of showing how hard some girls are on each other.

I have witnessed some girls talk about how fat or ugly a different girl is and even though it isn’t too common, it’s common enough and that’s unfortunate. Screenwriter Tina Fey accurately wrote about how girls put each other down, but her script shouldn’t be seen as an indictment of all girls.

Thinking back on the movie, it does a great job of showing how girls can treat each other, but the characters’ behaviors should not be seen as a way to act.

I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy.
