What do I want to be?
Growing up I was told that I could be anything I wanted to be from an astronaut to a cowgirl.
When I was little I went to a rodeo, and the clowns jumping from one barrel to the other excited me. I wanted to chase bulls around the arena and run in and out through the barrels protecting the cowboy.
Then in second grade I met Kelly Lee. She was the greatest teacher I have ever had the privilege of meeting. That caused me to go from wanting to be a rodeo clown to a teacher. I helped her with the test papers, and I was the line leader. I felt like I was on top of the world.
But now I know I do not want to be any of that. It has taken me many years to realize I will always be back and forth about what I want to be. As of now, I want get out of Inman and go to college after high school and find what I really love and what I want to do for the rest of my life.
This summer I was able to join a summer camp and travel. I went from inside caves in Tennessee to surfing in Folly Beach. It really opened my eyes to how much you gain from working in outdoor leadership and where that degree in outdoor leadership can take you.
For all I know, I could end up at some office job in New York or in the depths of some jungle discovering a lost tribe and bringing them to life with my photography.
