Homework has more negatives than positives for students
Homework isn’t fair. We’ve already done eight hours of school, so why should we need to do more?
Students start getting assigned homework when they start school in kindergarten and up. Doing homework and having to worry about it can cause unnecessary stress, and stress can lead to health problems.
Some people have after-school jobs and can’t do homework right when they get home. Staying up till 1 a.m. doing homework can cause you to get no sleep and can affect you the next day.
Sure, homework could be used as a punishment, but it depends on what the students do. Let’s say they aren’t listening in class, teachers could send an assignment home with them so they have a chance to learn what they missed. People might not have a great home life and putting homework into the mix is just more to deal with for the student.
Having to do homework can actually lower productivity and the performance of students instead of raising it. I do agree that some practice can do good but having to do the same material does not lead to improvement.
Students can lose interest in getting an education and bring about frustration and tiredness. Over 50% of students feel stressed, on average teens spend one-third of their time when studying feeling stressed, or anxious. Homework can also cause stress for parents as well because they are the only home-education resource that students have. Students struggle with different things when doing homework; for example, they don’t understand the assignment or they are just at their breaking point and can’t give anymore to learning.
People need a break. They need rest in order to retain information. Homework takes away free time for students to relax and takes away things like interacting with friends and going out. Homework also has not been proven to actually have an effect or result. According to “readingrockets.org,” there is not any conclusive evidence that homework increases how a student does in class. Homework is not something people want to worry about for 24/7.
