Teachers should be able to have legal weapons in their classrooms
In the case of an emergency, teachers should have a legal weapon that they can grab out of their desks. In the current world we live in, we have all these new rules such as the new door policy, and teachers having access to weapons could be a new one.
Teachers should have a weapon they have easy access to if needed. They would tell students about it and the proper procedure for a just-in-case situation. They should be able to have something they can just grab and go, like a baseball bat or sharp object. Teachers would pick what they feel comfortable keeping in their classroom.
The weapon shouldn’t end up in the wrong hands, only a teacher or staff with the right requirements. Such requirements are they must have a weapons license and proof that they know the right drills. Drills would take place one Saturday a month, and all licensed staff must attend them. It would be mandatory for teachers who applied to keep a weapon with them.
The weapons are only to be used if necessary, like if an active threat is in the building. They would leave it locked up at all times. If every teacher doesn’t have something, the first and last classroom of each hall should at least have one weapon in their desk.
If teachers don’t feel comfortable with having a weapon, they should at least learn how to disarm someone if needed. Disarming drills will also take place on this one Saturday of the month.
All of this will help increase the safety and security of our schools.
