The city of Inman continues to grow
A couple of years ago, Inman didn’t consist of much — a few businesses, restaurants and a smaller population. Now things are different.
Inman didn’t always have the restaurants they have now like Zaxby’s and Broncos. As the years have passed, Inman has added many more restaurants to our community.
English teacher Susan Hall states Inman is growing with different businesses.
“When I was growing up, there was nothing,” she said. “Then there was a Hardee’s.”
Inman has been growing at a steady pace for the past few years. In 2011, the population number of Inman was 2,405. Even though that’s not a huge number, the growth since 2020 was 3,665, a 1,260-person difference.
Houses are popping up rapidly, and new stores and businesses. That has led to an increase in the number of students at Chapman.
Although he thinks the growth is a positive thing, Principal Andrew McMillan questions how it’ll affect our school system.
“One thing that has made our district very special is smaller class size and a smaller school environment,” McMillan said.“I would be curious to see our plan to help with this growth.”
One area that’s grown is Downtown Inman, which now has an escape room, a bar, a thrift store, a coffee shop and a hair salon. The Inman branch of the Spartanburg library will be opening soon.
Baseball coach Steven Fusaro, a Chapman graduate, said things have changed.
“It was a very blue-collar place and now some of that is starting to change,” Fusaro said.“It’s really neat to see downtown starting to come up.”
McMillan said he thinks that the area will continue to grow.
“I think the sky is the limit,” he said. “It’s really just about us and the city.”
