A Royal Tale
“You win,” Princess Amarii said as she put away the chessboard.
The girls giggled as they got their things together to visit the royal hospital to see their mother, Queen Victoria.
“Mother’s cancer has gotten worse, I don’t think she’ll make it much longer,” Princess Charlotte said with a mysterious grin.
They got to the hospital and their mother was hooked up to medical equipment. Princess Charlotte’s grin faded into a slight frown when she saw her mother’s face and how pale she had gotten.
Amarii couldn’t help but break down into tears as the royal guards had to escort her back to her bedroom. While the guards took Amarii back, Charlotte had asked the doctors for a minute alone with her mother.
When they were finally alone, she cried into her mother’s arms. Then she heard a slight beeping and felt her mother’s hand go cold.
She realized what had happened and let out a yell in pain, “DOCTORS! Hurry, she’s dead.”
Doctors rushed into the room and froze when they saw that the Queen had really passed away.
A few weeks went by, and there was a funeral for the queen. Charlotte had become the new queen. Meanwhile, Amarii had taken up reading on magic, a skill their mother was going to teach the girls when they were old enough.
