There is no doubt that public libraries have changed significantly in recent years due to the rise of digital technology.
As technology is expanding and it is becoming way easier to access, libraries are becoming harder too. The pandemic also had a mass impact on public libraries and people going out in general.
Some people don’t want to go to libraries because they don’t want to leave the comfort of their place to get up and go to the library when they don’t have to. Kids don’t want to, because libraries are painted as uncool or nerdy so that narrative is pushing people away; however, I do not believe that they will completely go away with time.
I think that the library is going to advance with time and more are going to start going again. The other day I went to the library and saw way more people than I would have a year ago.
There were kids and adults reading and kids working together on a group project, kids were playing bingo and laughing, having a time which gives me hope for the future.
While it is true that many people now have access to books and other resources through the internet, public libraries still play a crucial role in society.
They provide a safe, quiet space for people to read, study and work and offer access to physical books and resources that may not be available online.
Plus, public libraries often serve as community centers, offering programs and events for people of all ages and free Wi-Fi and other important things for people who need it, but it is possible public libraries will eventually become extinct due to advances in technology and digital media.
