The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” left fans heartbroken when the season eight finale aired on March 10, but we knew it wasn’t the end. While the original show has ended, the spin-off “The Originals” is still running. However, it was the end of the Salvatore brothers and that was the worst part.

If you’ve never watched the show then you most likely don’t know who the Salvatore brothers are or why we’re heartbroken.

Damon and Stephan were a dynamic duo that made this particular show a lot different than everything else I’ve ever watched. They were both vampires turned by a woman they loved, and 200 some odd years later they found a girl who looked just like her. From then on, they do everything they can to keep her out of harm’s way.

“The Originals” is based on four vampires from “The Vampire Diaries” that move to New Orleans to start a new life for themselves.

While the spin-off isn’t identical by any means, it still holds true to the dramatic events and excitement that “The Vampire Diaries” held, keeping fans engaged and bringing in new viewers as well.

Throughout “The Originals”, Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, and Kol Mikaelson return home to get back to their roots and to protect somebody they love. New Orleans provides comfort and safety to their family until they can provide for themselves.

“Legacies” is the final spin-off to these shows and is based on the person that characters in “The Originals” were trying to protect.

Both spin-offs are carrying on the legacy of a well-beloved show that is still a fan favorite to date.

Despite “The Vampire Diaries” ending, the way it was able to captivate the audience has left people watching with excitement two spin-offs later.
