Trading the physical for the digital in classrooms

In schools now, the textbook is obsolete. Why do we still use them?

District One is in the process of giving Chromebooks to use in class for assignments. These could be used for creating assignments as well as substitutes for textbooks.

The textbooks are clunky and heavy and take too much room in book bags while laptops can save space.

Laptops are linked to the Internet with all kinds of resources teachers can use in classes for different types of teaching.

They can use things like Blendspace and Powerpoint to let students create presentations and Kahoot where teachers can create fun quizzes that help engross a student in the learning.

The ability to find information at the tip of your fingers is a great resource for students to strengthen things such as essays and papers.

Technology creates new horizons for learning and teaching. The teachers have access to all kinds of teaching tools and students are able to access information for assignments and presentations.

With just a touch of our fingertips, we can work together to improve teaching and learning.
